concerns and compliments description of the service hylton house is registered with the care quality commission (cqc) as a care home providing personal care. the service is registered for adults aged 16 and above who have a learning disability. registration criteria include people with sensory impairment, learning disabilities and physical disabilities. hylton house provides accommodation over two floors and comprises 8 double bedrooms. four of the bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms, and the other four have a vanity unit with a hand basin. all occupants share a spacious lounge, and a large kitchen, breakfast and family room. to the rear of the property there is access to a patio and large private garden area. the accommodation is designed to enable easy access for people who use a wheelchair. hylton house is on a residential road in a beautiful area of sutton. it has been extended and adapted into a comfortable home and is surrounded by other spacious and comfortable family homes. the service offers twenty-four-hour support, including waking night provision, to meet daily living, social, emotional and educational needs. alongside focusing on supporting individuals to increase their skills to enable their participation more fully in ‘ordinary life’, services seek to empower people by supporting them to develop their means of communication and by encouraging individuals to make informed choices. we aim to provide a person centred approach to care. person centred means doing things in a way that the person wants, and which helps them to be part of their community. if someone is in the centre of something – they are the most important person. you will be accommodated in a comfortably furnished, double room you will have privacy within your own room you will share the rest of the house with other service users community participation & social inclusion individuals are supported in accessing educational or developmental facilities and services within the local community. individuals are also encouraged to pursue social and recreational interests and are supported to access a range of resources within the local community. this may include pubs and social clubs, groups for individuals with similar needs or interests, the library, swimming, church, bowling and cycling. family and friends each person who lives at hylton house is encouraged to retain contact with friends and relatives and develop as much as possible. hence visits to the home are encouraged and we keep everyone updated with any and all news, inviting relatives and friends alike to social events / parties we may have. consideration is always given to any activities that the person might have made a commitment to when arranging visits. additionally they are asked to respect that they are living with other people and therefore visitors after 10 pm will be generally discouraged. unresolved difficulties in this area should be addressed with the registered manager. there are no facilities for friends or relatives to be accommodated overnight unfortunately but information can be provided about local accommodation, there is plenty in the area not far from the home. furniture, fittings and personal effects provides fully furnished accommodation, and therefore individuals are not required to bring items of furniture into the home. however if a person wishes to bring certain items with them this can be discussed with the registered manager. a flexible approach will enable a new person moving in to settle and adjust more easily to their new surroundings. individuals are expected to bring their own personal effects. pets the policy regarding pets is flexible but should take into account the wishes and needs of all people who use the service. there is normally no problem with smaller animals or caged birds. provision of meals individuals are encouraged to choose their own meals and will be supported in making informed choices. where possible, all are positively encouraged to participate in the preparation, serving and clearing away of meals depending on their level of ability. timing of meals are flexible and generally established in consultation with the people who live at hylton house, and can be dependent on what has been going on through that day. special dietary requirements will be catered for, particularly taking into account health, ethnic and religious considerations. alternatives to meals will also be available. individuals may be involved in the purchasing of food with staff support as appropriate. staffing & support services staff qualifications/training/development and performance staff at come from a variety of backgrounds and have a wide range of skills and abilities. all receive a structured induction programme to sector skills council specification. ongoing training and development is linked to the needs of the people who use the service and the home’s aims and annual
